Totalspan Gold Coast - Splash Leisure School
Splash Leisure Swim Building
When it comes to commercial steel buildings, the team at Totalspan Gold Coast are the specialists. We spoke with the team who designed and built the new Splash Leisure Swim School.
Tell us how this project came about?
Mark Stockwell, of Stockwell Constructions, approached Totalspan Gold Coast for a custom commercial steel building design to cover the new Splash Leisure Learn-to-Swim school at Flagstone, Queensland.
It seemed only fitting that Stockwell Constructions were involved in the project given Mark Stockwell was an elite swimmer who represented Australia in the 1984 Olympic and 1986 Commonwealth Games!
Tell us how about the design and build process?
The Totalspan Gold Coast team were up to the challenge and got to work liaising with the Totalspan 'Custom and Commercial Division' to design a complex tapered building. MetecnoSpan Insulated Panels with Magnaflow high quality durable finishes were selected along with the combination of Z350 Core Strip Galvanised Steel and speciality paint finish.
Foundations are one of the most important parts of any building project and Stockwell Constructions specialises in unique developments. The roof features energy efficient solar pool heaters; the weight of this technology was taken into account at the design phase to ensure the portal framing, purlins and roof reinforcements would support the load.
The design team overcame many complicated parameters including a retaining wall above the ground level and necessary fire rated boundary walls. Additionally, some inherited design features were negotiated as the building is part of a medium sized shopping centre complex.
Totalspan's manufacturing facility, located at Crestmead, supplied the cold formed beam steelwork with seamless execution. Totalspan supplied Inline girts for the boundary wall and Stockwell Constructions designed core filled blockwork firewalls and foundations as well as a suspended concrete slab for the pool deck.
What stands today is an impressive building that is the product of an excellent collaborative effort. Well done to all parties involved!
